Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Search and Rescue Volunteer

This volunteer would work with Joe Colonna in STL County or Ray Redlich in StL City to go out on Street Patrol and deliver food, clothing, and other items to the homeless who are living on the streets.   

Joe Colonna and Ray Redlich would determine the hours for this volunteer. 

This is a volunteer position where we are looking for someone who will be consistent, reliable, attend training, and show up as scheduled (unless there is an emergency).

Pickups, Deliveries, and Transportation

This volunteer would assist with the pickup and delivery of donations as needed – some would be scheduled weekly (like the STL Bread Co pickups) others might be as needed.  This person (if available) might also assist in transporting Leadership Training Staff to Doctor’s Appointments, etc. as they are available. 

Dulce Jones, the Volunteer Coordinator, would determine the hours for this volunteer. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

Administrative Building Cleaning

This volunteer will assist with the cleaning of the building including cleaning bathrooms, emptying office trash cans and recycling cans, and taking the trash and recycling out to the appropriate dumpsters. They will also clean the front and rear doors and windows from smudges, handprints, etc., and vacuum, sweep, and mop floors as needed.   

The hours for this volunteer would be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday thru Friday, or any combination of days according to the volunteer’s availability. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).  

This is a volunteer position where we are looking for someone who will be consistent, reliable, attend training, and show up as scheduled (unless there is an emergency).

Receptionist

This volunteer will answer phones and work at the front desk (training will be provided).  

We are looking for someone who would be willing to commit to working on either Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm – or you could work Monday through Friday (or any combination of those days according to the volunteer’s availability) from 2:00 – 4:30 pm. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

Events

Help with events.

Free Store Attendant

This volunteer position will assist in sorting donations and the clothing rotation in the Free Store in Overland, Missouri.  

We plan to have one small free store for women and one for men – that would be available to Utility Assistance Clients and then also be available to the ladies in the Leadership Training Program and for the men who work out of the Overland Building.  

The hours for this volunteer position would be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday thru Friday, or any combination of days according to the volunteer’s availability. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

Sandwich Room Attendant

This volunteer will assist in the Sandwich Room – preparing sandwiches and putting together sack lunches for the street patrol teams and for the Friday HOTS event each week.  

The hours for this volunteer would be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday thru Friday, or any combination of days according to the volunteer’s availability. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

Mail Room Attendant

This volunteer will assist with mailings – the printing and stuffing of direct mail packages.  

The hours for this volunteer would be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday thru Friday, or any combination of days according to the volunteer’s availability. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

Hygiene Kit Room Attendant

This volunteer will assist in the sorting process for hygiene kits, keeping an inventory of what we have on hand and what is needed.  

They would build hygiene kits based on the materials we have on hand for use at Friday HOTS events as well as special events like Socktober, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Hygiene Kits may also be sent to our Springfield center if we have enough of them.  

The hours for this volunteer would be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday thru Friday, or any combination of days according to the volunteer’s availability. Once the volunteer’s hours have been determined, they will not change (without prior approval).

NLEC TV Studio Volunteer

This volunteer would assist the NLEC TV Studio with cataloging tapes and other projects as needed.

They may also train on-camera work to help provide assistance in recording interviews during Utility Assistance times as well as other events for NLEC.

  • Be kind and respectful to other volunteers, event participants, NLEC Program members, and NLEC staff
  • Attend a volunteer training at required times
  • Show up on time for your shift
  • Share the news of volunteering or the event and invite your friends and family to join you in supporting the homeless community
