The NLEC first responders among the homeless met Matthew at a south St. Louis grocery store looking rather dejected. Someone had maliciously destroyed his tent that day while Matthew was away at work. The New Life Evangelistic Center team took Matthew and bought him a new tent and followed him through the woods to a clearing where he set up his new tent. Then the NLEC team helped him to obtain his state identification and birth certificate. For many homeless individuals the lack of proper documentation is their greatest barrier to breaking the homeless cycle. When it turned extremely cold in February, NLEC got Matthew in a hotel room. Now Matthew is working at a new job and living with friends until he can get back into his own place.
