The New Life Evangelistic Center
provides homeless men and veterans with housing, food, clothing and
hygiene items 365 nights a year. In addition to relief services,
NLEC provides a Men's Training Program, which is a developed program that
combines relief services, with education and on-the-job training to
disadvantaged men in various cities and communities in the
Mid-west. Many of the men in our training program
are learning on-the-job skills and how to live and serve in Christian community. The NLEC Training Program
is for individuals who desire to change their lives for the better by learning
job skills and living in Christian Community. The training program provides
in-depth training and instruction of job skills such as: computer training,
reception work, renewable energy, television and radio production, hospitality,
and farming and livestock care. The basis of the NLEC
Training Program is founded upon: prayer, bible study, faith, hope,
responsibility, and Christian
Community. NLEC believes that healing is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and the support of Christian Community.
Please read the stories and testimonies of men who have been apart of the NLEC training program.
"I thought I
was doing great until the age of 33. That was when I started using drugs.
I would spend my whole paycheck, staying up for days, missing work, and
not going to family gatherings. When my family found out what was
going on, they told me to stop or just stay away. The Devil had me,
so I just stayed away.
This went on for several months. Then one night after four days of doing
drugs and with a pile of drugs in front of me, I heard a voice. The
voice said, "Chris you can't keep going on like this. You're
destroying your life." I heard these things over and over again.
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. It was the Lord trying to get
through to me, and asking me to come to Him.
Right then, I
knew it was Jesus. I knew that I had to do something. I got up
and walked out leaving thousands of dollars worth of clothes and hundreds
of dollars of drugs. Not knowing where I was going and as the Lord
guided me, I walked 13 miles to a Granite City, Illinois friend's house
and told her my story. She told me about Larry Rice and the next day
I called my cousin and told him that I needed a ride to St. Louis.
I have been
in New Life Evangelistic center for almost 2 years. The Lord has
been growing stronger and stronger in my life. Let me tell you, if
you don't have Jesus in your life, please pick up the Bible and start
reading it. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and I guarantee that
He will hear you."

"I came to
NLEC 10 years ago. I was homeless when I joined NLEC and started
learning new things such as how to help others on a day to day basis,
television and shelter work. There are days that seem to be
stressful, but I spend time alone with Jesus and find relief. By
reaching out to others, I see that Jesus reaches out to me. May
Jesus work in your life to show that there are a lot of people who need
help."

"I am a
veteran who by the grace of God, found New Life Evangelistic Center in my
time of need. Due to changes in my life, I found myself homeless
with nowhere to turn. NLEC has given me the opportunity to learn a
new trade and to help people in need all over the United States and in
other countries. I have taken Lord Jesus into my hear and am at more
peace spiritually than I have been for most of my life. Thank you
Larry and Penny Rice and NLEC for giving me this chance to begin my life
again. I was lost and now I am saved."

Stepping into
the Light Ministries
Born in 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri, Pastor Jerome Bracely of Stepping
into the Light Ministries is an embodiment of the saying, "they don't need
to hear you talking, if they can see how you're walking." More than
5000 men have been served through Stepping in the Light Ministry (SILM).
They have come off the streets, embraced Jesus as their Savior, given up
substance abuse, found steady employment, and some are now married men and
fathers. This deliverance ministry has had a remarkable 70% success
rate in recovery from addiction.
Jerome spent
fifteen years addicted to drugs and alcohol, until he received God's help
through Rev. Larry Rice at New Life Evangelistic Center. While
seeking deliverance from his addictions, Jerome made a promise to God, "If
you can deliver me, I will dedicate my life to freeing others."
Stepping into the Light Ministry was born out of this promise.
In God's
providence, the building now used by the ministry was purchased for $1,
and even the $1 used to buy the building was donated, since Jerome had no
money in his pockets. Since Stepping into the Light Ministries began
its work in Old North St. Louis in 1995, the drug dealers who used to
frequent the area have fled, property values have risen, and urban
redevelopment is advancing throughout the neighborhood. SILM has
helped to transform a whole community, as well as the thousands of men who
have left behind homelessness and drug addiction.
